About Me
For a long time, I was mostly good at functioning
I’m Nicky. My morning begins with cacao. I sit down on my mat with the cup and practise. It’s the part of the day that belongs to me – and the reason I know that a daily practice doesn’t always have to be big to change something for good.
For me, functioning meant carrying responsibility, adapting, doing what had to be done, orienting myself to the outside. At some point I realised: functioning is not the same as feeling connected to yourself and alive.
My own journey began with yoga in 2017. I soon noticed that for me it was about far more than movement. Over the years, breathwork, Kriya Yoga from the Himalayan tradition, somatic work (Somatic Alignment), nervous system regulation, conscious touch and sound followed. All of these paths kept bringing me back into my body, my breath and my feelings.
A particularly deep experience was my first Breathe to Rebirth session in Rishikesh. Through intensive inner work I had recognised many of my patterns, fears and old wounds. I knew where they came from, and still they kept repeating. My body was still holding on to what my mind had long understood.
Through working with the breath, something began to change. I learned to listen to my body again, to regulate my nervous system and to experience more safety within myself. And I understood that change doesn’t only come from understanding something – but also from our body feeling safe enough to let go of the old and allow something new.
My daily practice hasn’t made my life perfect. There are still highs and lows, and my emotional world is sometimes still turned upside down. But it has changed how I meet them. I notice sooner when I lose connection with myself, and I know what brings me back to myself again and again.
Part of this grows in India. For several years I have spent the winter months there, deepening my own practice and learning something new each time about surrender and letting go of control.
